# 19 Mining Power Calculation

In CryptoStone, Mining Power determines the speed and opportunity with which a user can mine gemstones. Participants who stake more STONX acquire more Mining Power and can reach claim conditions more frequently.

If user *(i)*’s staked amount is *(s\_{i,j})*, the lock-up multiplier is *(L\_i)*, and the user’s Mining Power is *(P\_{i,j})*, it is calculated as follows:

$$
P\_{i,j} = s\_{i,j} \times L\_i
$$

Mining Power does not directly increase the probability of receiving a higher-grade gemstone. Mining Power only affects the speed at which PoM accumulates.

This is similar to Bitcoin mining. Participants with more mining equipment obtain more mining opportunities, but they cannot change the mining rules themselves. Likewise, in CryptoStone, participants who stake more STONX accumulate PoM faster, but cannot arbitrarily increase the probability of receiving better gemstones.
